- Land Rover reveals Transparent Bonnet virtual imaging concept
- New level of driver awareness with a 'see-through' augmented reality view of the terrain ahead, making the front of the car 'virtually' invisible from inside the cabin
- Technology provides full visibility of what is underneath and in front of the car, with total clarity of otherwise hidden obstacles
- Transparent Bonnet is part of a suite of new concept technologies to be showcased in Land Rover's Discovery Vision Concept car at the New York International Motor Show
Pioneering technology is being developed to give Land Rover drivers a digital vision of the terrain ahead by making the front of the car 'virtually' invisible.
Cameras located in the vehicle's grille capture data used to feed a Head-Up Display, effectively creating a 'see-through' view of the terrain through the bonnet and engine bay, breaking new ground in visual driver assistance. The technology, named Transparent Bonnet by its creators, shows how advanced technology will take Land Rover's unrivalled capability to the next level.
The technology enables a driver climbing a steep incline or manoeuvring in a confined space to see an augmented reality view capturing not only the terrain in front of the car but also the angle and position of the front wheels.
Dr Wolfgang Epple, Director of Research and Technology for Jaguar Land Rover said: "We believe the next 25 years will be the most exciting and dynamic the automotive industry has ever experienced. There will be huge strides in environmental innovation, in safety and capability.
"As our vehicles become more capable and autonomous off-road, we will ensure the driver has the confidence to allow the car to continue to progress, over any terrain. We are developing new technologies including the Transparent Bonnet to give drivers an augmented... [Read More]
Land Rover took the all-new 2014 Range Rover Sport to one of the world's most unforgiving driving challenges and set a new record. What did the Range Rover Sport accomplish on Pikes Peak?
The new Range Rover Sport is more than just a pretty face that Daniel Craig drove in New York at its reveal in March, TorqueNews..com reports. The newly redesigned SUV is the real deal. A new hill climb record on Pikes Peak has confirmed that the new luxury SUV is one tough son-of-a-gun. The 2014 Range Rover Sport set a new hill climb record for a production SUV. And it was accomplished on Colorado’s 14,000 ft Pikes Peak 12.42-mile mountain hill road.
Land Rover announced the new Range Rover Sport established the record for a production-standard Sport Utility Vehicle and broke the long standing record for any kind of production-standard vehicle on the Pikes Pike International Hill Climb course. The feat was accomplished yesterday at the venue of the spectacular annual competition known as 'The Race To the Clouds'. It’s one of the most challenging and unforgiving driving challenges on the planet.
The extreme altitude affects performance
The new luxury four-door Sport climbed the 12.42-mile Pikes Peak asphalt course in just 12 minutes 35.61 seconds. This course is tough because of the extreme altitude of the mountain road. The mountain course goes through 156 corners as it ascends beyond the treeline from 9,390 feet (2,860m) above sea level to 14,110 feet (4,300m). The rarified air contains only 58% of the oxygen it does at sea level, diminishing both engine and driver performance.
The new record was set at an average speed of 59.17 mph (95.23 kph) on the twisty road that “clings to the edge of the mountain with precipitous drops on one side and unyielding rock faces on the other.” PPIHC (Pikes Peak International Hill Climb) timed the performance as Pikes Peak “hill climb specialist” Paul Dallenbach drove the Range Rover Sport on the record run Thursday. A stock Range Rover Sport with a... [Read More]

Has anybody got already a RRS commaded on Sept/Oct 2013?
I ordered mine by the end of October 2013 in London and I got no news yet of the production date (not to speak about delivery...). I've orderer a TD/seven seater/panoramic roof. For what I've heard there is a shortage of panoramic roofs and 7 seats and the small engine is considered as "negative" priority when put in the production queue.
does anybody has any information on this? Thanks
Víctor (Barcelona, Spain).
This morning BulgariDesign Limited (not to be confused with BULGARI or BVLGARI) released more information about the upcoming Range Rover Sport Coupe, which will be available during the first quarter of 2015. Armen Hareyan reports for TorqueNews.com.
First, thanks to BulgariDesign Limited it lost two rear doors, but still looks very attractive in my humble opinion. BulgariDesign Limited, which has been working with Range Rover since 2004 has created the new look of the Range Rover Sport Coupe.
The vehicle will be available in the first quarter of 2014. While BulgariDesign Limited said the prices have not been yet confirmed, they are expected to be in the "region of £150,000," which turned in US Dollars will amount to $246,907, according to today's conversion rate. No wonder, the car will be available only in 100 units.
The designing company's special program allows all drivers, who will order the new Coupe, to tailor their vehicle to their individual taste. This includes utilizing Italian leather, which are available in various colors.
Land Rover will send the Range Rover Sport Coupe to the buyers with three years warranty. BulgariDesign Limited says the local Land Rover dealerships will service and carry the warranty work.
This team, members of which designed the upcoming Range Rover Sport Coupe, is very skilled. It has worked with the Range Rover since 2004, producing the Range Rover Mayfair in 2007.
Here are some technical details. This sport Coupe, according to the release, will be available with Land Rovers new 5.0 Litre V8 500+ BHP engine. It is expected to achieve 60mph in 5 seconds. The new Range Rover Sport Coupe will also be available with the SDV6 3.0 Litre diesel engine for in different parts of the world, depending on the local market's needs.
Clarification: BulgariDesign Limited (bulgaridesign.com/) has no connection or relationship of any kind with BULGARI or BVLGARI group (bulgari.com). Nor any of the group... [Read More]
